The idea of using the fish skin never died though, and fashion entered early, as can be seen in the Icelandic newspaper articles that were written about fashion hats made of fish skin in the forties. But then fish leather wasn´t in the picture until tanning fish skin began in 1994, when Atlantic Leather Company in Sauðárkrókur was founded. They are applauded for their craft of tanning everywhere, for the incredible durability of their fish leathers and it´s natural look that makes them always look new.
